We live in, now, today
I am, generally, a big supporter of the NHS, but find that with long-term therapy, it can be very hard to find the right fit and ongoing help and support. I am paying for therapy, which I cannot afford, and having previously gone through the NHS, you can start to feel like it’s your fault that you can’t receive the help you need. You have to fight for, declare, and re-declare, your needs. Being an advocate for yourself and doing it alone is difficult. Some days you don’t feel motivated to do this, lose confidence in yourself and in ‘the system’. You can come out of mental health / counselling / therapy assessments, losing hope. Hoping for the best, but not knowing which service is able to cater for you, knowing that there is a long wait, a restriction on the number of sessions you can have, a wait before getting on the waiting list again..
