I’m Tara and I had a recent diagnosis of ADHD, at the age of 40. I am a lover of the *NHS but, in this instance, appreciate that I was privileged to be able to have a private assessment. This was after an NHS wait and was at a stage when I felt it was a necessity due to the colossal impact on my mental health and life. I am aware that there is a huge demand for assessments, with services, and life, sometimes not being well enough equipped for this and for the support and help that can be needed.
ADHD is not ‘fashionable’ (this really irks me) and is NOT something we are, all of a sudden, seeing. It was always there. We were going undiagnosed.
(Not a medical professional. Everyone’s experiences are different. Self — diagnosis is very valid. )

I grew up in the UK and wasn’t well known or a ‘name’ that you would have heard of, but presented a few shows on local radio stations, mainly in the South West.
I had a lot of insecurities and even though I had potential, was very much distracted by my self-doubt and self-loathing! I could have been much better I think and, at times, I look back and cringe!
At the time, radio felt like the love of my life and I almost placed too much significance and…
